MERRA has continued its scrutiny of the proposal for an Auckland Regional Landfill in the Dome Valley. Waste Management has now applied to Council for consent.
In response MERRA has now made a detailed submission to Council on the application. This is further to MERRA’s original January 2019 position paper (click here) and related press coverage.
As well as supporting ecological concerns we also make a detailed case (should approval still occur) for transporting waste by rail and keeping over 750 extra (mostly heavy) vehicles per day off SH1 and the Dome Valley.

We invite your support for our submission. If you would like to support us please go to Council’s submission page by following this link. Then simply click on ‘Make a Submission’ in the banner near the top of the page and follow the instructions. Aside from providing your details you do not need to include further detail unless you want to… simply indicate your support for the submission already lodged by Mahurangi East Residents and Ratepayers Association (MERRA). You do not need to appear to speak to your submission.
Finally, MERRA made its submission at the landfill resort consent hearing held in Warkworth in the week commencing 7 December 2020. You can follow the well researched and comprehensive submission on this link – MERRA’s submission commences at the 57 minute mark.
