As recently reported in Mahurangi Matters, the Harbourmaster has removed a large amount of illegally dumped rubbish from the Mahurangi foreshore after pressure from MERRA to take action. MERRA wrote to the Harbourmaster’s office in July to draw their attention to dumping of rubbish and effluent from illegally moored vessels in the harbour.
In response, the Harbourmaster despatched a crew and work vessel to the site in September, which recovered almost a tonne of waste material from this site. The Harbourmaster has advised that further enforcement action is to be taken, and that the team will continue to work with the local live-aboard communities to ensure compliance.
