The Incorporated Societies Act 2022 requires MERRA to re-register no later than 30 April 2026 as an incorporated society or it will cease to exist as a legally recognised entity. A resolution to re-register was approved at the MERRA AGM on 4 May 2025.
Re-registration also requires MERRA to adopt a Constitution to replace its current Rules. The MERRA Committee has spent significant time and effort drafting a constitution that meets the requirements of the new Act, and which updates MERRA’s processes to meet its current needs. We now have developed the Draft to a point that we are now able to share it with the wider membership.
Click here for a copy of the Draft. We encourage MERRA members to take a look and provide us with any feedback so that we are able to formally approve it as soon as possible. Please send any comments to merrasecretary@gmail.com no later than 4 June 2025 to allow the Committee to consider them.
We are aiming to hold a special general meeting in July to approve the Constitution, which will then allow us to lodge our application for re-registration well ahead of the 2026 deadline. Formal notice of that meeting will be issued once we have considered members’ feedback.
