Race 1 of the Te Kapa regatta, postponed from 10 October due to weather conditions, will now take place on Sunday 6 December, first race 11.30 am, with the skippers briefring at 11.00. High tide is 12.24 pm. There will be a post race barbecue. The venue for racing and the post race get together is 9 Young Street.
This season things will be done slightly differently to last, there will be a handicap system in place to assist starting and we will run two divisions – a separate one for Deltas than for other craft. Deltas will start first on a windward / leeward (up to the mark and back) course. The Deltas will have overriding right of way against all other boats so the rest of us will need to keep clear when crossing or passing and the Deltas will likely run on a slightly shorter course so hopefully we all finish around about the same time. If this needs tweaking we will do that as needed.
There are still a number of Deltas available so if you would like to be part of this but don’t have a boat here’s your chance. If you’re not too sure about the sailing we will provide tuition to get you started and there will be a backup safety boat on the day. They are easy to sail so come and give it a go.
